Sirona Dx pioneered Imaging Mass Cytometry™ applications for biopharma launching the world’s first commercial CRO service in 2018. A leading-edge technology, IMC enables highly multiplexed immunohistochemistry (mIHC) with simultaneous detection of up to 38 protein markers in the same tissue section with subcellular, single cell resolution.

Immune cell properties and functions are highly dynamic and driven by external cues from the local tissue environment and interactions with other cells. IMC confers high multiplexing capacity while also retaining the key informative spatial information to more accurately profile cells and understand their behavior.

Our Imaging Mass Cytometry service utilizes the Hyperion™ Imaging platform and metal tagged antibodies combined with industry leading technical expertise to help our clients characterize the tissue microenvironment, evaluate targeted biomarkers for preclinical and clinical samples and classify patients based on tissue biomarkers.

Frequently Asked Questions

What sample types can be profiled by IMC?

Suitable biological sample types include frozen or formalin-fixed, paraffin-embedded (FFPE) tissue sections or cell smears (liquid biopsies) deposited onto glass slides.

What is the resolution of IMC?
1 µm. The IMC process directs a 200 Hz laser focused at 1 µm to tissues stained with metal-tagged antibodies and directs these metal tags to analysis by inductively coupled plasma time-of-flight (TOF) technology, the basis of CyTOF® mass cytometers. A discrete signal from each ionized metal tag is detected based on differences in mass instead of wavelength, and at 1 Da resolution with minimal background.

What Antibodies are available for IMC?

Since 2018, we have developed a large inventory of metal tagged IMC antibodies. Some are purchased directly from Fluidigm but many more are conjugated at our laboratory using metal labelling kits manufactured by Fluidigm. Our inventory is continuously expanding. If we don’t stock your marker/clone we can custom conjugate. Please contact us for more details.
